Weekly Prep Thread 1 June - 7 June
Busy day here. Canned many pints of cucumbers and peppers. Eating the zucchini as fast as it matures, tomatoes starting to ripen. I suspect we'll be canning those by the middle of next week. Ate our first cabbage of the season.
Other than that, pretty boring around here. Y'all? |

Good for you, infantryman! Our tomatoes went into the groud last weekend, we had temps in the 30' before them. We are definitely at peak salad though: spinach, mizuna, mustard mix and mesclun mix like I can't eat enough. Lots of kale and asparagus too. Spent hours watering- we need rain!

Got a 1/4 ounce Gold AE for a good deal off of FeeBay. Also got 4 more ounces of silver. Ordered some of the Mountain House ground beef #10 cans off Amazon which shipped out within 48 hours of ordering them. Got me some heavy duty Steel Toe boots and a couple more nice knives. Oh and some WallyWorld Federal 22 LR ammo, 5 boxes worth and some of the 9mm HP ammo that WallyWorld sells.
Also found a really nice local outdoor range that only charges $5 a day or $75 a year to shoot at. They pretty much allow anything from what my friends told me to be shot there. |

Re: Weekly Prep Thread 1 June - 7 June
Off topic, just watched a young man in his early 20s die in a car crash. Looked like the small car was trying to cut across traffic and got hit by a huge dump/trash truck. Passenger was killed instantly. I was heading the opposite way down the road when it happen and was actually stopped next to the demolished car for around 10 minutes. If I stretched out of my car window I was almost close enough to touch the car. I just sat there stairing at the passenger who looked like he was killed on impact. I still can't get that image out of my head. My local news has a picture of the cleanup on their website at wdtn.com under 1 Killed in Crash in Miamisburg. I was stuck next to the car right where the firefighters are with the stretcher in the picture.
I am very thankful for everyday God gives me and my family on this planet. |

Re: Weekly Prep Thread 1 June - 7 June
Infantry I should explain more now that my mind is clear after a night of rest. Two police crusiers were right there near the intersection when it happen and the first police officer was out of his car within seconds of this happening. I was about 50 feet west of the accident turning onto this major street when it happen. I was out of my car for maybe 10 seconds before I was told to "get the hell back in your car" by the police officer. The car got cut off and went over the median into oncoming traffic which happen to be this Dump Truck. It tried to spin out of the way but was hit in the passenger side and the passenger and his seat were pushed up and out killing the passenger instantly.
This was during heavy traffic in this intersection and it was a few minutes after the accident happen that I was to move my car to try and clear the area. I was able to move the car about 50 feet which put me within touching distance next to the small median where the car was. Since the passenger died instantly and the driver was able to walk out of the car before collapsing the car wasn't quite a priority until the fire truck got there to make sure a fire wasn't a possibility. So the cops didn't even consider covering the body at this time and this is when the part I wrote before happen. The wreck was so bad that it took over 2 hours to get the car unwrapped from the truck and to be able to finally remove the passenger's body. |
